The Path to Yourself, or the Road to Happiness: First Steps / Vladimir Svetlov. — Moscow: Institute of Natural Consciousness.
This book is a call to deep self-knowledge and conscious living. The author explores a person's journey to happiness through overcoming internal barriers, developing willpower, and connecting with the "Higher Self"—the true essence that reveals itself through experience, mistakes, and responsibility. The central idea of the book is that a person is born for happiness but must independently find their dream, accept themselves, and take active steps, despite fears and external circumstances.
The author urges the reader not to put life "on hold," not to fear mistakes, and to seek their own unique path, relying on an inner connection with God or Nature. The book contains practical recommendations: how to work with self-esteem, ask yourself deep questions, find support (such as through coaches), and change boldly. This is a guide to spiritual awakening, where happiness is the result of constant searching, the courage to be oneself, and the conscious choice of a path that leads to fulfillment and the realization of one's true essence.

I am grateful to my beloved wife, Angelika, for her inspiration, support, and patience during those long evenings when I was completely absorbed in working on this manuscript.
Instead of a Preface
You know, everyone wants to be happy. We're all chasing it, and every single one of us is convinced we know exactly what it is. But here's the kicker—we're usually wrong.
The truth is way messier. And why? Because nobody ever really sat us down and explained happiness. I mean, maybe our parents tried. But let's be real: are your parents actually happy? Odds are, they're still looking for it themselves, just as lost as the rest of us. For them, happiness is probably just as much of a mystery.
We're all looking for happiness, even though no one really knows what it actually is. People tell us, "Be happy!", but they don't explain how to do it. At some point, we might even start to think that happiness doesn't exist.
But it does exist. It can be both private, individual, and universal—one for everyone. At the same time, it's different for each person—for children, for teenagers, for adults, for the elderly. At every evolutionary level of human development, there is its own happiness.
And you know when we are happy? When we are living the program of our own age.
In this book, we will discuss both personal happiness and the universal kind—the one that is for everyone. Everyone has their own approach to happiness. Many believe it is individual. However, I assert: happiness is a universal concept. And now, you will see this for yourself. To do so, it is enough to look deep within yourself, into the very depths of your soul, and ask: "What is happiness for me?" Put the book down. Right now. Look within yourself and ask this question. And write your answer here:
For me, happiness is...
(This space is left for your personal reflection.)

I often ask this question to participants in my seminars. And I receive answers like these. Happiness is...
• A state of the soul;
• Results;
• Understanding why you were born;
• Harmony;
• The ability to rejoice;
• To love and be loved;
• Health;
• Comfort;
• Atmosphere;
• A conflict-free state;
• Safety;
• Mood;
• Money;
• Unlocking talents;
• Family;
• Communication;
• The fulfillment of desires.
However, if you carefully examine this list, it becomes clear that many items depend on external conditions. We often subordinate our happiness to external circumstances, expecting them to bring us joy. This is the first mistake. We believe that we will be happy if the stars align. This is the second mistake. And there are a million such mistakes. And each one pulls you deeper into the trap, distancing you further from happiness. Because it is inside you, not somewhere out there.
When I was five years old, my father told me that coffee puts you in a good mood. And I refused to drink it. I said to him, "My good mood should be inside me, not in a cup of coffee." I was five. I don't know why I said that to my father. Maybe I already knew something from a very young age, came into the world with that kind of awareness. I don't know. But it doesn't really matter.
When you read this book, you will understand what happiness means to you. You will find the only right answer to this pivotal question. Your answer. And your life will change. For the better, and forever.
Or you will remain dependent. And for a good mood, you will need to increase the caffeine concentration with each cup of coffee. And for happiness—you will need to escalate the pace and volume of desires you fulfill. Strange desires from the list above.
But why do these things even arise in the mind when I was asking about happiness? What does 'state of the soul' mean, and who is supposed to set it for you? Yourself? And how are you supposed to do that?
Can you answer these questions? If not, if you have no answers, you won't be able to capture the right state of soul and maintain it. But if you find the answers, you will be truly happy.
You know what we do most often? We run away from searching for answers to the most important questions. We run into music. We run into some work. We run into entertainment. But we don't solve the problem at its core. And then, deep inside us, everything remains as it was. Yet, as you have already understood, true happiness awaits us within. And we can only find it by turning inward, by asking ourselves profound questions. You just have to start searching for the solution — and it will undoubtedly be found.
And don't be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are the direct and shortest path to happiness. They help us know ourselves better and discover new possibilities, expanding the horizons of our awareness. So don't be afraid to make mistakes: it's a natural process on the path to happiness and deep self-understanding.
Part I. The First Timid Steps on the Path to Happiness
Chapter 1. Happiness as a State of Being
At the heart of a state of being lies something deep and significant. But what exactly does the soul rely on to be in a good state? Perhaps on mood? Possibly. But mood is an unstable system. It is like the ebb and flow of the tide. Today it is present in your life, and tomorrow it is gone. Something more stable, unshakable, is needed.
Health, perhaps, is the best option. Health is something we can at least influence by taking care of ourselves. However, even health cannot guarantee constant happiness. It only creates the conditions for it, but not happiness itself.
And what about a goal? You can grasp it, touch it. Or maybe a dream? After all, goals aren't important in themselves, but for fulfilling a dream. Dreams are precisely that important thing which fills our aspirations with meaning and energy. However, dreams alone cannot be a source of happiness. They provide direction, but do not guarantee the attainment of happiness.
