He ripped the air with a sharp buzz. Римми отпрянул, немного напугавшись. Залетел комар, уселся на край входа, как бы раздумывая, стоит маленький Римми его внимания или же найти кого-то побольше размером. Rimmy recoiled, a little scared. A mosquito flew in, sat on the edge of the entrance, as if wondering if the little Rimmy was worth his attention or if he could find someone bigger. Комар, очевидно, был сильно разборчив, поэтому сорвался и мигом исчез в воздухе. The mosquito was obviously very picky, so it broke off and instantly disappeared into the air.

С улицы веяло теплом и свежестью, воздух был наполнен запахом всего цветущего, чему только вздумается зацвести весной. The air was warm and fresh from the street, the air was filled with the smell of everything blooming that just wants to bloom in spring.

Изо всех щелей между бревнами торчал мягкий мох. They will launch it when the last ice comes off. Римми погладил его и вырвал кусок для того, чтобы изучить внимательнее, затем надел себе на голову и так пошел к Понти. Soft moss protruded from all the cracks between the logs. Rimmy stroked it and tore out a piece in order to study it more closely, then put it on his head and so went to Ponty.

Понти сидела за столом и пила чай. Ponty was sitting at the table and drinking tea. Как только она увидела Римми в парике из мха, чай выплеснулся у нее изо рта и она звонко засмеялась. As soon as she saw Rimmy in a wig made of moss, tea splashed out of her mouth and she laughed loudly.

Наконец наступил важный день. Finally the big day came. Мелкаши спали дольше обычного, так как они не знали, когда придется отдыхать в следующий раз. The makashis slept longer than usual, as they did not know when they would have to rest next time. Все уже было собрано, походные рюкзачки стояли в ряд – четыре штуки: три больших и один маленький – для Понти. Everything was already packed, hiking backpacks stood in a row – four pieces: three large and one small – for Ponty.

Одежда травяного цвета развешена на вешалках. Grass-colored clothes are hung on hangers.

– Готовность номер один, – скомандовал дедушка Хомм, – Возьмите с собой только необходимое – ни еды, ни воды не надо, только приспособления для добычи еды и защиты.

– Ready number one, – Grandpa Homme commanded. – Take with you only what you need – no food or water is needed, only devices for food extraction and protection. Все, что нужно, мы найдем по пути. We'll find everything we need along the way.

Сквозь лаз в стене проникало яркое солнце. The sun was shining brightly through a hole in the wall. Мелкаши спешно одевались. The makashis hurriedly dressed. Вокруг них в солнечном свете кружилась и танцевала пыль. Dust swirled and danced around them in the sunlight. Ребятам было очень весело и волнительно, ведь они выходили за пределы родного дома в первый раз. The guys had a lot of fun and excitement, because they were going outside their home for the first time.

Яхта была видна издалека, с высоты дома на горе, она покачивалась на волнах рядом с широкими мостками. The yacht was visible from afar, from the height of the house on the mountain, it rocked on the waves next to the wide catwalks.

А дедушка Хомм и бабушка Бобетта уже были там. And Grandpa Homme and Grandma Bobetta were already there. Бабушка рассказывала ребятам, когда они были еще малышами, что там страшно и опасно. Grandma told the guys when they were still kids that it was scary and dangerous there. И ни в коем случае туда нельзя никогда, особенно в одиночку. Но ведь дети есть дети, самое опасное – всегда самое интересное, в общем, нетрудно догадаться, что они мечтали оказаться там на природе: жечь костры, искать еду в чистом поле или даже ловко забирать ее у людей из-под носа! But after all, children are children, the most dangerous thing is always the most interesting, in general, it is not difficult to guess that they dreamed of being there in nature: burning bonfires, looking for food in an open field or even deftly taking it from people from under their noses! Они мечтали дни напролет, хохоча вдвоем от придуманных способов добычи еды. They dreamed for days on end, laughing together from the invented ways of getting food.

В рюкзачке у Римми была зажигалка, не обычная, а минизажигалка со сжиженным газом. Rimmy had a lighter in his backpack, not an ordinary one, but a mini-lighter with liquefied gas. Дедушке Хомму повезло ее найти: кто-то ее потерял в доме. Grandpa Homme was lucky to find her: someone lost her in the house. Также он нес рыболовные снасти. He also carried fishing gear. Рюкзак был увесиситый, но делать нечего, без этих вещей не прожить. The backpack was weighty, but there was nothing to do, you couldn't live without these things.

Бабушка Бобетта несла в своем рюкзаке кастрюльку, или как они называли ее «котелок», соль и зачем-то перец. Grandma Bobetta carried in her backpack a saucepan, or as they called it a «pot», salt and pepper for some reason.

Она говорила дедушке Хомму:

She told Grandpa Homme:

– Без перца-то мы обойдемся, да и зачем так много?

– We can do without pepper, and why so much?

На что он ей ответил, что может настать день, когда он их спасет. To which he replied that the day might come when he would save them.

Понти несла иголки разной длины, нитки, для нее был самый маленький рюкзачок, так как она была маленькая девочка. Ponty carried needles of different lengths, threads, for her there was the smallest backpack, since she was a little girl.

Дедушка Хомм тащил самые тяжелые и нужные приспособления: самодельные ножи, москитную сеть и многое другое. Grandpa Homme dragged the heaviest and most necessary devices: homemade knives, a mosquito net and much more. Его рюкзак был, наверное, бездонным, неудивительно, ведь он был сильным и взрослым, еще совсем не старым, хоть и был уже давно дедушкой. His backpack was probably bottomless, no wonder, because he was strong and grown-up, not old at all, even though he had been a grandfather for a long time. Как это ни странно, но дедушка Хомм боялся больше всех, он был там, за стеной, и многое уже из опасностей видел. Strange as it may seem, but Grandpa Homme was most afraid of everyone, he was there, behind the wall, and he had already seen many of the dangers.

Он скрывал от всех, что боялся этого приключения, и старался сохранить присутствие духа. He hid from everyone that he was afraid of this adventure, and tried to keep his presence of mind.
