The New Classmate

It was the first day of the new school term. Tom and his best friend Jack were excited to see their classmates. The classroom was full of noise. Children were talking, laughing, and putting their books in the desks. Tom noticed a boy sitting alone in the corner.

Jack whispered, “Who is he?” Tom shook his head. “I don’t know. Maybe he is new.” The boy had dark hair and big brown eyes. He looked a little nervous. Tom decided to go and introduce himself.

“Hi! My name is Tom. What is your name?” he asked. The boy smiled a little. “I am Peter. I just moved here from another town,” he said softly. Tom nodded. “Welcome, Peter! Do you want to sit with us?”

Peter’s eyes lit up. “Yes, thank you,” he said. Tom and Jack made space at their desks. “Peter, this is my friend Jack,” said Tom. “Hi, Peter!” said Jack. “Hello,” Peter replied. He looked happier now.

During the lesson, Peter was quiet but paid attention to the teacher. He answered some questions correctly. Tom noticed that Peter was clever and polite. At lunch, Tom, Jack, and Peter sat together. “Do you like football?” asked Tom. Peter nodded. “Yes! I like playing football very much.”

Jack smiled. “Good! We can play after school.” Peter looked excited. “Really? That would be great!” After lunch, they went to the playground. Tom, Jack, and Peter played football together. Peter ran fast and kicked the ball skillfully. Tom shouted, “Wow! You are really good!”

After football, they sat under a tree to rest. Peter said, “Thank you for inviting me. I was a little scared today, but now I feel happy.” Tom smiled. “We are glad you joined us. Everyone needs a friend at school.” Jack added, “Yes, and you are clever and kind. We are happy to have you.”

Over the next few days, Peter became friends with many children in the class. He helped others in lessons and shared his pencils and books. Tom and Jack noticed that Peter was always polite and kind. “He is a good friend,” said Jack. Tom nodded. “Yes, and he makes our class better.”

One morning, the teacher announced a group project. Each group needed to work together to create a poster about animals. Tom, Jack, and Peter were in the same group. They decided to draw a large poster with colorful pictures of lions, elephants, monkeys, and birds.

Peter suggested some ideas. “We can write the animals’ names and where they live,” he said. Tom and Jack liked the idea. They worked together, cutting, coloring, and writing. Peter was careful and creative. When the poster was finished, it looked wonderful. The teacher praised their group.

During breaks, Tom, Jack, and Peter often played together. Sometimes they played football, sometimes board games. Peter also told funny stories about his old school. Everyone laughed and enjoyed his stories. He became a popular and well-liked classmate.

One rainy day, Peter forgot his umbrella. Tom and Jack shared theirs with him. “Thank you! You are kind friends,” he said. Tom smiled. “We take care of each other.” Jack added, “That is what friends do.”

The new classmate had changed the classroom in a good way. Children were more helpful, polite, and friendly. Peter’s presence showed that even someone new can bring happiness, friendship, and ideas to a group.

At the end of the month, the teacher asked the class, “What have you learned about friendship?” Tom raised his hand. “We learned that it is important to be kind to everyone, especially to new students. A friend can make you feel happy and included.” Peter smiled. “I agree. Friends make school better.”

Tom felt proud. He had helped Peter feel welcome, and he had made a new friend himself. Jack nodded. “Yes, friendship is important. We should always be kind and helpful.”

That night, Tom wrote in his notebook: “Today, Peter is my friend. We played, laughed, and worked together. Friendship is wonderful. Everyone deserves a friend.”

Peter also felt happy. He knew that even though he was new, he could be accepted and respected. He was grateful to Tom and Jack for helping him feel included.

From that day, Tom, Jack, and Peter became inseparable friends. They learned that friendship is built with kindness, care, and shared experiences. A new classmate may be nervous at first, but a little kindness can make a big difference.

Tom realized that welcoming someone new is not only polite but also rewarding. He learned that friendship grows when you help, include, and share happiness with others.

The new classmate taught them all an important lesson: everyone can make new friends, and kindness and respect make school and life better.
