Об авторе

Тоби Орд – старший научный сотрудник философского факультета Оксфордского университета. Он занимается анализом комплексных вопросов, стоящих перед человечеством. Какие проблемы сегодня имеют особенную важность? Как лучше всего подходить к их решению?

На ранних этапах своей карьеры он изучал этические аспекты глобальной бедности, что подтолкнуло его взять на себя обязательство всю жизнь жертвовать 10 % своего дохода самым эффективным благотворительным фондам, помогающим делать мир лучше. Он основал организацию Giving What We Can (“Подарим что можем”), чтобы другие люди могли присоединиться к его начинанию, и совокупный объем пожертвований, сделанных ее членами, уже превысил 1 млрд фунтов. Затем Орд пошел дальше и стал одним из основателей движения эффективного альтруизма, в рамках которого тысячи людей, опираясь на здравый смысл и факты, стараются сделать как можно больше хорошего для других.

В настоящее время он изучает риски, грозящие уничтожением человечества или полным крахом цивилизации, а также ищет способы защитить человечество от этих опасностей, которые он считает одними из самых серьезных и недооцениваемых проблем, стоящих перед нами. В разное время Тоби был советником Всемирной организации здравоохранения, Всемирного банка, Всемирного экономического форума, Национального совета по разведке США и премьер-министра Великобритании.
