Ask a different one: "What do I need to do with this so it becomes part of the book?"

Sometimes the answer is: "cut it out."

Sometimes: "rebuild it."

Sometimes: "keep the core and rewrite it in my voice."

Sometimes: "move it to another place."

That is, you treat the generation not as a finished product, but as material.

And here the most important shift happens: AI stops being an author "in your perception." It becomes a source of drafts.

The conclusion of section 2.2

Writing "in one pass" is a dream that ruins books, because a book requires several levels at once, and they are almost impossible to hold in one movement.

AI strengthens this dream because it knows how to quickly create a smooth surface of text – and it seems to the author that the work is already done.

But the work is not done until the text has:

connection;

●

rhythm;

●

voice;

●

and that very feeling of inevitability that distinguishes a book from a "set of chapters."

The iterative method returns control to you: it forces you not only to move forward, but also to go back – until the book begins to breathe as a whole.

2.3. The Language of Talking with ChatGPT: the Prompt as Thinking, not as a Spell

Now we have reached the point where a beginning author usually experiences the first distortion. They have already understood that AI is a tool. They have already heard about iterations. And then an almost technical question arises: “So how do I talk to it correctly?”

And here the market divides into two camps:

In one are people who turn the prompt into pseudocode: with operators, conditions, rigid constraints, enumerations, prohibitions, formats, points, brackets, and meta-instructions.

In the other are those who write to AI almost as if it were a living person: they explain the intention, the mood, the doubts, they speak “heart to heart.”

And each camp is sure that it is the one that understood the essence.

The truth, as is almost always the case in a craft, is not in the extremes. It is in understanding why you are talking to AI at this particular moment at all.

What a prompt really is (if you remove the layer of magic)

The word “prompt” sounds as if we are talking about a special formula. But if you remove the technical shine, a prompt is simply a way to set context and role.

You are not “giving a command.”

You are placing AI into a situation.

And here it is important to destroy one myth immediately: a prompt is not an instruction in the style of “make it perfect.” It is a frame of thinking into which you place the model.

AI is not a person, and it does not think. It responds like a system that is sensitive to context. And the clearer the context, the more precise the response.

Why rigid prompts are so tempting

A beginner very quickly finds videos, articles, and “life hacks” about “correct prompts.” And sees examples:

“You are an experienced writer with 20 years of experience…”

“Write strictly in this style…”

“It is forbidden to use…”

“Response structure: 1, 2, 3…”

“If you violate it – rewrite it…”

It looks professional. It seems that the more rigid the frame, the better the result.

Sometimes that really works – over a short distance. Especially if you need to:

get a list;

make a summary;

generate a variant;

test a hypothesis.

But in working on a book, rigid prompts quickly start doing harm.

Why? Because a book is not a task of complying with conditions. A book is a process of searching for form. And a rigid prompt fixes the form too early.

What breaks when the prompt becomes a “contract”

When you start talking to AI as if it were the executor of a technical assignment, you quietly do three things.

First, you shift responsibility for the form.

It is as if you are saying: “I described everything – now you must do it.”

And if the result does not come alive, irritation appears: “why is it bad, I wrote everything out.”

Second, you narrow the field of search.

AI begins not to think broadly, but to check boxes:

style? yes.
